Important–Your Academic Status at De Anza
Here's how to remove your registration hold
Dear Student,
We noticed that more than half of the course grades you've received through the end of last quarter have been W (Withdrawn), I (Incomplete) or NP (No Pass). As a result, you will need to complete a progress probation process that's designed to provide you with extra support. You also will have a registration hold placed on your student account until you finish the steps below.
- You are not alone. Many students have faced academic difficulties – sometimes due to personal, financial, health or family issues – and have succeeded in regaining their academic standing.
- We are here to support you! An Academic Awareness Program support team, including an academic counselor and student success specialist, has been assigned to work with you in the quarter ahead.
Here are your next steps.
First: Complete the Student Self-Assessment and Action Plan before you meet with your counselor. This self-assessment should help you identify your strengths and areas to improve, gain insights into your study habits, and set clear goals. Your AAP academic counselor will meet with you to review the assessment and help you set goals.
Second: Complete a meeting with Phong Lam, your counselor on the AAP team. Phong will assist you with reviewing the self-assessment, setting clear goals, choosing classes strategically, updating your education plan, removing your registration hold – and providing additional support. To meet with Phong:
- Click this link to schedule an appointment, or
- Speak to her without an appointment, in person or on Zoom, during her regular drop-in hours on Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m.
Third: Complete regular check-ins with Sara Partida Medina, your student success specialist. Sara will check in with you to offer support, answer questions, schedule counseling appointments, provide referrals for other services, and assist with removing your registration hold. You may reach Sara:
- By phone at 408.864.8388, or
- Click this link to submit a message through the AAP help desk
You must follow these steps in order to have your registration hold removed. You won’t be able to register for classes, order transcripts or receive any certificates or degrees while the hold is in effect.
In addition, students who are on progress probation for more than one quarter may lose their priority registration status and could lose eligibility for certain types of financial aid, such as the California College Promise Grant, or veteran’s benefits. (The Financial Aid Office and Veterans Resource Center can provide more information about eligibility.)
You can learn more about progress probation on the Probation Standards and Requirements webpage. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your Academic Awareness Program team.
Best wishes,
De Anza College
