Important–Your Academic Status at De Anza
Academic Probation and Registration Hold
Dear Student,
We noticed your cumulative grade point average through the end of last quarter is below 2.0. As a result, you are beginning an academic probation process designed to support you in improving your academic standing. You will also have a registration hold placed on your student account, until it is removed by your counselor.
- You are not alone. Many students have had academic difficulties – due to personal, financial, health or family issues that affected their studies – and have successfully regained good standing.
- We have confidence in you! We believe you can raise your GPA and achieve your goals at De Anza.
Here’s your next step: You must meet with an academic counselor to discuss how you can improve your GPA, so you can get back on track with your academic goals.
- If you are part of program or Learning Community that has its own counselors, you should speak with the counselor for your program. This includes programs such as Disability Support Services, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), International Student Programs (ISP), First Year Experience (FYE), Puente, Umoja or the Veterans Resource Center. You can see the complete list at deanza.edu/our-counselors.
- If you’re not in a program that has its own counselors, you should contact the Academic Awareness team to schedule an appointment with an Academic Awareness counselor.
You must meet with a counselor in order to have the registration hold removed. You won’t be able to register for classes, order transcripts or receive any certificates or degrees while the hold is in effect.
In addition, students on academic probation for more than one quarter may lose their priority registration status and could lose eligibility for certain types of financial aid or veteran’s benefits. (The Financial Aid and Veterans Resource Center offices can provide more information about eligibility.)
