Pho Available Today
Pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup, will be served at the pasta station in the Campus Center food court today (Feb. 18) from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The food court is open Monday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
Mini Flea Market Is Today
The De Anza Student Government (DASG) Flea Market is hosting a mini flea market today in the Main Quad, in collaboration with the Japanese Student Association (JSA).
You'll find clothes, jewelry and other items for sale from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Stop by JSA's booth to get your name written in calligraphy.
Nowruz Celebration Is Tomorrow
International Student Programs is hosting a Nowruz celebration tomorrow (Feb. 19) from 1-4 p.m. in Campus Center Conference Rooms A&B.
Nowruz marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year for more than 300 million people worldwide.
There will be traditional music and dancing, authentic snacks and more. Please RSVP in advance.
Black History Month
Dialogue with Nikki Thomas
Everyone's invited to hear an important discussion on Black culture, media and legacy, featuring Psychology instructor Derrick Felton in conversation with radio host Nikki Thomas, presented by the Black Faculty, Staff and Administrators Network (BFSA). The event will be held on Zoom this Wednesday, Feb. 19, from noon-1 p.m.

Spring Registration Assistance
The Outreach Office is offering help with the registration process for spring quarter. All students are welcome to visit RSS 146 for assistance on the following dates and times. (No appointment is needed).
- Tuesday, Feb. 25: 10:30-11:30 a.m. and 2:30-4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Feb. 26: 10:30 a.m.-noon and 2-3:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Feb. 27: 9-10:30 a.m. and 3-4:30 p.m.
Almost Home: Life After Incarceration
The Rising Scholars program and the Office of Professional Development will host a screening of the film “Almost Home: Life After Incarceration” next Thursday, Feb. 27, from 12:30-3 p.m. in the Multicultural Center. This documentary explores the challenges faced by individuals after incarceration and the positive impact they can have on their community when given the opportunity to succeed.
After the film, there will be a student and staff discussion panel. Audience participation is encouraged. Refreshments will be provided. Please sign up in advance to attend.
Classified professionals and full-time faculty members can earn PGA credit for attending; part-time faculty members can earn compensation. Please sign in at the event to record your participation.
Business Model Competition
The De Anza Innovation Center will host the annual Business Model Canvas Competition next Friday, Feb. 28, from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m., in MLC 103, 104 and 105. Students will be challenged to form teams and analyze real-world problems, develop strategic business models and propose innovative solutions. Students can compete for a total prize of $1000.
Volunteer Opportunity
Academic Senate Listening Project
The Academic Senate is seeking volunteers for an upcoming event, “The Listening Project: Empty Your Cup,” which is part of a series exploring equity, harm reduction and the current political climate. This event on Feb. 26 and 27 will be an opportunity for people to sit with an active listener and share thoughts or concerns.
Volunteers will receive training in active listening, which does not mean solving problems or providing therapy. They will be asked to listen for an hour or two, and later to summarize major themes or topics they have heard. If you’re interested, please send an email to Erik Woodbury, Academic Senate president, at woodburyerik@deanza.edu by Monday, Feb. 24.

Student Food Assistance Program
CalFresh is California’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that can help students buy healthy, fresh groceries. Eligible students can
receive up to $291 a month to help reduce the cost of food. It only takes a few minutes to check your eligibility

Employee Spotlight
Honors for Former Coach and Athletics Director
Kulwant Singh, retired longtime De Anza athletics director and soccer coach, will be honored by
the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) next month, when he will be inducted into the group’s "Hall of Fame."
Singh was De Anza’s athletics director from 2004-21 and served as head soccer coach for men (1990-2006 and 2013) and women (1991-97). Under his leadership, De Anza won 11 conference championships and two state championships for men, and four conference championships and two state championships for women – including separate state championships for both men and women in the same year, 1994.
Singh coached 14 players who earned All-America honors and more than 100 who transferred with athletics scholarships to four-year schools. He was named National Community College Coach of the Year twice, and two of his teams earned 3C2A designation as “Scholar Teams” for their academic performance.
