Support for Undocumented Students

Trustees Unanimously Adopt Resolution

De Anza's commitment to undocumented students was reaffirmed this week by the Foothill-De Anza district Board of Trustees, which unanimously adopted a resolution declaring that De Anza and Foothill colleges will continue to maintain the privacy of student records, and won't cooperate with state or federal efforts to obtain student information without a warrant.

ICE on Campus ProtocolThe college has placed posters around the college to help ensure that everyone knows what to do, in the unlikely event that immigration agents come on campus.

  • The posters advise students and employees to notify the president’s office immediately, if immigration agents are on campus, without giving individual consent for agents to enter any facilities.
  • The posters also provide the web address for De Anza’s Undocumented Student Resources webpage, which provides information and links to campus and community services, legal resources and videos.

The posters are a project of the Academic Senate, building on earlier efforts by HEFAS (Higher Education for AB 540 Students), in collaboration with the Office of Communications and President’s Office.

Also in December, the Academic Senate and Classified Senate each approved statements in support of vulnerable students and employees, and separate resolutions on funding to support AB 540 and undocumented students.

Open Enrollment Ends Jan. 31

Medi-Cal and Covered California Application Support

A representative from Latinas Contra Cancer, a nonprofit service and advocacy organization, will be coming to the Pride Center in Library 138 tomorrow – Wednesday, Jan. 15 – to give a presentation on Covered California and Medi-Cal. She will also be providing direct application support. Students who are interested in applying at the session should bring the following items:

  • California ID or driver's license
  • Social Security number or individual taxpayer identification number
  • Proof of household income (recent tax return, W-2 or pay stub)
  • Information about household members (dates of birth, SSN or ITIN numbers, ID information, demographic information, employment information and income).

Remember, the deadline for open enrollment is Jan. 31.

De Anza Student Government

DASG Election Applications Due Monday, Feb. 3

De Anza Student GovernmentIf you are interested in becoming a 2025-2026 De Anza Student Government senator, you must submit an application by 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3. To be eligible, students must:

  • Be enrolled in at least 8 units (12 units for international students)
  • Maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Not have served more than three terms as a DASG senator
  • Commit to being enrolled at De Anza through the next academic year (no transfer applications filed)

Students must also attend at least one student election information session and the mandatory candidate orientation on Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 2-3 p.m. Applicants should also be familiar with the DASG bylaws and codes. The current open positions are:

  • President
  • Vice president
  • Chair of finance
  • Chair of student rights and equity
  • Chair of marketing
  • Chair of programs
  • Chair of environmental sustainability
  • Chair of Inter Club Council (ICC)
  • Student trustee

De Anza Hosts Silicon Valley Reads Kickoff

Kickoff in the VPAC Is Thursday, Jan. 30

Silicon Valley Reads 2025De Anza is once again proud to host the Silicon Valley Reads kickoff on Thursday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m., in the VPAC. Silicon Valley Reads is an annual community reading campaign that hosts a variety of events centered around a specific theme. This year’s theme is "Empowering Humanity: Technology for a Better World," which will focus on the future of technology, including artificial intelligence, and its potential to create a more equitable society.

The event will be moderated by Sal Pizarro, a Mercury News columnist, and will feature a panel of authors. The discussion can be viewed for free in person or online via streaming. You can register for the event on the Silicon Valley Reads website.

Hope Initiative Met $1 Million Dollar Match

Hope Initiative logoFoundation Exceeds Three-Year Goal of $3 Million

Thanks to community generosity, the Foothill-De Anza Foundation has received enough support to match an anonymous donor’s $1 million pledge to the Hope Initiative.

The foundation reported this month that it has not only met the match but exceeded the three-year campaign’s $3 million goal. The Hope Initiative supports student basic needs by providing food, housing, emergency grants and mental health resources.

Support Students Affected by Southern California Fires

The Foundation for California Community Colleges is asking for donations to help community college students impacted by the Southern California fires. Two-thirds of California community college students already struggle to afford basic needs, and many are now at an even greater risk due to the fires. Donations will go towards helping students find temporary housing, replace lost items and get transportation to classes.
