Comprehensive Musicianship Placement Exam
Incoming students must take a placement exam before enrolling in the Comprehensive Musicianship cycle. Students with little familiarity with Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Music Notation are encouraged to take Music Fundamentals, offered online during the Summer quarter.
The Comprehensive Musicianship cycle consists of six courses: MUSI 3A, 3B, 3C, and MUSI 4A, 4B, 4C. The cycle always starts in the Fall quarter and follows the sequence.
New students enrolling in MUSI 3A are expected to have basic knowledge of the following:
- Major and Minor Key Signatures
- Spelling Major, Minor, and Diminished Chords
- Time Signatures and Rhythm Notation
Applied Music
Applied Music (MUSI 25) consists of individual instruction on an instrument or voice and studio group meetings. To be eligible to enroll in MUSI 25, students must:
- Be a music major
- Be enrolled in one of the major ensembles
- Pass auditions
Students must contact the appropriate instructor for auditions, and they will be added to the class accordingly. Students do not register for MUSI 25 directly.
