Events This Week

DASG Spring Carnival

colorful balloonsEveryone's invited for food, games and prizes at the first-ever spring carnival on campus this Thursday, May 30, organized by the De Anza Student Government (DASG) and the Associated Students at Foothill College. The carnival will be held from noon-6 p.m. in De Anza’s Main Quad and S Quad. Games will include bocce ball, corn hole, balloon darts, toy bowling and more.

Shared Space for AANHPI Students

The Mental Health and Wellness Center is hosting a weekly support gathering for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students – every Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon in the Multicultural Center, Room 11. Participants can enjoy free snacks and activities designed to foster self-care and well-being.


Graduation Reminders

young man in grad cap with Veteran sashDe Anza will hold its 57th annual commencement on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, California.

Remember to File for Your Degree

If you're planning to graduate, you must apply for your degree by completing the online form. Be sure to apply no later than Monday, June 17, if you want your name listed in the printed graduation program.

Order Graduation Gear by June 14

You can purchase Graduation Packs – which include a cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover – and affinity stoles from the De Anza Bookstore. You can buy them online or at the campus store in the RSS Building.

Be sure to place your order by Friday, June 14, so you receive your items in time for graduation on June 29. If you need financial assistance in purchasing a gown, email Chelsey Taniguchi at communications@deanza.edu with your name and CWID.

Honors and Achievements

Track and Field Makes Strong Showing

De Anza’s Kai Burich won a gold medal in the hammer throw while his teammates in men’s and women’s track and field made a strong showing during the annual California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) state championship event held earlier this month.

 students standing on raised platforms to receive medalsThe De Anza men’s team finished at the top for Northern California and placed fourth overall, while the women’s team placed in the top five for the region and 13th overall. Among the De Anza athletes:

  • Burich (pictured here) won his medal with an opening round hammer throw of 183 feet, 6 inches.
  • Antoine Moret placed second in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase and Liam Brennan was second in the men’s discus throw.
  • On the women’s team, two-time All-American Ningning O’Brien placed second in discus throw and third in hammer throw.
