From the President
In Memory of Jean C. Trimble
Oct. 13, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
As we commence with this fourth week of the fall quarter, I write with the sad news of the passing of an influential and beloved figure in De Anza’s history.
Jean C. Trimble passed away October 4 at the age of 98. She was one of the first faculty in De Anza’s Registered Nursing Department, which began in 1967—the same year the college opened. Over the years, she taught and mentored hundreds of outstanding young nurses and doctors.
Jean was admitted to Stanford University’s School of Nursing in 1957. She paved the way for a new generation of nurses by being one of the first single mothers admitted to Stanford, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in science/nursing in 1960, then a master’s degree in public health from UC San Francisco.
She joined the Nursing faculty at De Anza in 1966, retired in 1990, and continued working as a psychiatric nurse until she was 84.
Dr. Anita Muthyala-Kandula, dean of Biological, Health and Environmental Sciences, has sent condolences to Jean’s family on behalf of the college, division and program.
Please join me in holding Jean's loved ones in our thoughts and celebrating the life of a truly extraordinary individual.
Wishing you and your students a successful quarter,
Omar
