2026-2027 DASG Executive Officers
DASG President
2
Maddie Balaji
DASG President
At De Anza, our student body comes from various backgrounds, each person with different experiences, perspectives, and needs. We have students traveling from across the country and around the world to be here. Every voice deserves a space to be heard. The differences on our campus give us an excellent opportunity to make our environment more welcoming to more people by addressing the diverse concerns of our diverse community. Addressing students' concerns requires the student government to listen and communicate openly and transparently. I want to strengthen and maintain proper communication between the senate and the student body and make sure all perspectives are properly heard and respected when making decisions, whether they be big or small. With consistent and solid communication, I hope to foster a trusting environment where representation is more than a formality.

Honestly I want to be a DASG executive officer to improve my application for when I apply to any university after this. I feel like I can also build new connections and create a positive environment around campus which many applicants may not be able to do. While this is all seriousness, I will try to have a creative fun process to this, and i'm hoping you guys will be able to consider me.

Leyan Naboulsi
DASG President
I am running for DASG President to turn De Anza into an engaging opportunity driven-campus, not just a place to transfer out of. Very often, students view community college as a waiting room, a long dreadful two years until they can transfer to a university where they think they can finally live their out their college life. I intend to change that, by organizing targeted alumni mixers focused on securing internships and startup opportunities. I will allocate funds towards these events to expand and increase opportunities for students. I believe promoting networking and social events will motivate students to make meaningful connections and make the most out of their available support. Additionally, I will implement a Print Credit program, students shouldn't have to pay out of pocket to get their assignments turned in. I plan to do this by loading credit funds into student accounts every quarter. As President, building a campus community where tangible opportunities are easily accessible is one of my top priorities.

DASG Chair of Administration
To me, fairness and transparency are the backbone of De Anza's student government and are essential for students, whether part-time, full-time, or senators. I plan to incorporate the needs of the student body by leveraging my experience. I have been a Treasurer and ICC representative for the Jewish Student Union for the past year, which has shown that I can recognize and value the responsibilities of being trusted and depended on to follow bylaws and protocols. To address the logistics hurdles ahead, I will work closely with executives on issues regarding communication between different branches of the Senate, De Anza staff, and students, and will carefully adhere to policy and protocol. I am studying Electrical Engineering and am drawn to technical challenges. Although I gravitated to this role because it fits my interest in tackling complex organizational problems, I see it as something more personal and impactful. I'm confident that your vote will make a difference, and I am eager to have a direct, positive impact on the college life experience of my peers at De Anza.

I am running for DASG Chair of Administration because I would like to assist the student government in running effectively and ensure that every senator has the support they need to be successful. I'd always try to make sure to stay organized and responsible, and I enjoys helping others stay on track, which is why I believe I could contribute well to this role. If I am elected, I will ensure that every senator is doing their job, attending meetings, and turning in their reports on time. I will also assist new senators in getting familiarized with their roles so that they feel confident in their work. I have experience taking notes, reporting key information, and working with groups from when I had the opportunity to represent my class at a school conference and I plan on using this experience to assist the President and the Senate. My hope is that by running for DASG, I can ensure that the student government is organized, efficient, and helpful to all students, so that we can work together to create a positive and welcoming campus environment.

Hello! My name is Shreya J. Singh. I am running for the office of DASG Chair of Administration. During my time serving as an intern at the Administration Committee, I participated in the deliberation and planning that goes into fulfilling this committee's mandate firsthand through reviewing policies such as the Elections Code and debating campaign regulations with Senators on the committee. I am passionate about leadership and democracy, and plan to harness my passion and experience working with this committee if elected. I will work with peers to increase student participation in elections, ensure that the committee meets necessary deadlines to prepare for said elections, and utilizes resources effectively to fulfill the mandate of administering elections and enforcing DASG bylaws. As a candidate for office here at De Anza, it is my responsibility to inform the student body that I am a Dual Enrollment student. I am homeschooled, and while I take other online courses, I am unaffiliated with any other academic institution, and meet all requirements to run for the DASG Chair of Administration position. As Chair of Administration, I will ensure that my committee fulfills its mandate and prioritizes the needs of the student body. Thank you!

I invite you to imagine a student government that continues to grow even stronger, a place more students feel encourage to participate in DASG, and their voices are heard. As your Chair of Administration, I am going to support and improve the structures that help DASG serves students effectively. One of my main priorities is to strengthen the election process my encourage more students to get involved. I am going to ensure fair, transparent, and accessible elections. But why do we need more students to get involved? When more students participate, DASG better reflects the diversity of interests across campus. Only students can understand their peers' needs. With this strong belief, I will also work closely to support senators by helping them stay organized, informed, and aligned with DASG bylaws and goals. This ensures that students representatives can focus on what matters the most, which is by listening to students and advocating for their needs. With my past experience as President of my high school student government, I understand the importance of collaboration, communication, and accountability. I want all your voices to be heard and opinions truly reflected at De Anza College.

My name is Arin Kumar, and I am running for DASG Chair of Finance. Despite growing up in San Francisco with many community colleges close to home, I specifically moved to Cupertino to be part of De Anza's propulsive environment. Since joining the Finance Committee as an intern this fall, I have gained a deep understanding of the responsibilities that are required to excel in this role. Outside of the committee, I'm involved in programs on campus like Puente, and clubs like PBL and TEDx, which have all shown me firsthand how funding directly builds community, and strengthens student outcomes. As your Chair of Finance, I will turn said understanding into action by increasing paid on-campus jobs, strengthening essential student-success programs, and advocating for affordable student housing. Ultimately, I'm running to be a dependable leader who helps DASG invest in the programs that put the "community" in community college.

My name is Nam Khanh Le, and I am running for Chair of Finance because I have seen how funding decisions directly shape the effectiveness of DASG programs and the level of student involvement they support. Through my work on the Finance Committee, I have reviewed program funding, budget and participated in deliberations that require prioritizing limited resources across multiple DASG-supported programs. As Chair of Finance, my goals are to strengthen consistency in this committee's budgets and to improve clarity around funding outcomes, so students understand how and why financial decisions are made. I believe funding decisions should be aligned with measurable student impact while avoiding inefficient or unnecessary spending. I approach budgeting by closely examining proposal details, adherence to funding guidelines, and past spending outcomes rather than relying on assumptions or informal judgment. What distinguishes me is my focus on decision quality and follow-through; I care not only about approving budgets, but about ensuring that allocations are efficient, accountable, and supportive of meaningful student opportunities. I am committed to representing student interests responsibly and strengthening DASG programs through disciplined and transparent financial oversight.

When I was just 15, I started an e-commerce business with a budget of about $100, raising it to over $10,000 in a single year, thus making an average adult salary in my country. I processed over 10,000 transactions, accumulated 7,000+ reviews, and in my best months, I had about $10,000/month in cash flow. As the Chair of Finance, I will apply my knowledge and experience to fully optimize the DASG budget. I don't consider our $1.1 million budget as a trophy, but rather as a tool we should use to improve the lives of students on our campus. I intend to focus our budget primarily on those programs that are in need the most. As an international student, I know how it is often tough for them to adapt to college life in a foreign country, so I will do everything to ensure that they are fully supported throughout their journey and that all the programs are available to them. Overall, my goal is simple: strict and proper financial management and allocation of the budget across all the resources that De Anza has, focusing on those that require it the most.

One of the coolest things I value is creating actual change in my community. From my days as a high school student council Treasurer, to my tenure as high school student council Vice President and to my current time as Finance Intern of DASG, I have really found a passion for serving my school community. As a DASG Intern, I have spent lots of my time understanding the DASG budget, and through that I managed to assist this year's senators during Budget Deliberations for the DASG budget of 2026-2027. Therefore, through my work during the Budget Deliberations process and my past leadership experiences, I believe I am ready to be DASG Chair of Finance. One of the biggest problems I have noticed during my time as a student is the limited student job opportunities around the college, so if elected I will help to allocate the budget to increase job opportunities for all students. Additionally, I intend to ensure fiscal responsibility of the DASG budget by advocating to the college and its leadership for the institutionalization of funding for the Guided Pathways program. Through these actions, I aim to make a positive real difference to all De Anza students.

This belief is what led me to join DASG and what motivates me to run for Chair of Student Rights and Equity within student government. I want to expand student access to resources, raise awareness of our rights and opportunities, and ensure every student feels informed, supported, and empowered during their time at De Anza. DASG Chair of Student Rights and Equity
I'm applying for the DASG Chair of Student Rights and Equity because I know I can be a bridge for the student body. It's unfortunately very common to see initiatives for change stagnant as a result of bureaucratic issues, and I want to change that. My goal is simple: make sure student concerns actually reach the people who can act on them, and that the process is transparent enough that students can see it happening. Working at a non-profit that bridges the technology gap for seniors, I coordinated events where we had to balance a lot of competing needs and still deliver results. That experience taught me real advocacy: how to listen, organize, and follow through, which are all skills that translate directly into this role. As Chair, I want to build a space where students who feel overlooked actually feel heard. Not just acknowledged, but prioritized. Article II exists for a reason, and transparency and equity shouldn't be something we dream of-- it should be the default. Bridging the gap between what students are struggling with and what legislative action actually gets taken is a challenge, but I will work with our committee to close it.

Representing student voices has always been a passion of mine. I grew up in a Malaysian public secondary school, like many public schools, mine was severely underfunded, and students were completely unrepresented in discussions. After graduating secondary school, I went on to a pre-university college to complete my 12th Grade. There, I got an opportunity to represent my cohort of around 600 students in grade. I represented not only the students, but lecturers as well, bringing forth many changes that helped improve campus life, like better class schedules, fixed air conditioning, water dispensers on every block of campus with at most two floors between one dispenser and another, and fixed potholes in the open-air car parks. I also bring my experience growing up in a multiracial, multicultural country, combined with my hands-on experience working with my multilingual patrol members throughout my tenure to achieve the King Scout badge (Eagle Scout equivalent), which has already prepared me to represent students of all different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs. Now, as an international student living in De Anza's student housing, I represent a new group of voices and help create a campus where everyone feels welcome.

In an overwhelming community college, I don't want you walking lost, feeling invisible, or wondering where to turn. Let me be the one to reach out first. I want our Instagram and platforms to feel like a map you can trust, guiding you to what you need: financial aid, disability services, opportunities, and events where you can laugh, belong, and make friends. I want to be the familiar face you spot in a crowded room and the person who keeps you updated on scholarships. I have a firm heart to listen, a soft heart to reach out, and the determination to turn your needs into actioned solutions. Just like good design, initiatives should be appealing, accessible, clear, and helpful. I chaired my high school Student Government Marketing Department for two years, served as a DASG editor, and led two nonprofit organizations, building strong skills in decision-making, team coordination, and leadership. I have a passion for illustration, sketching, especially calligraphy. I pay attention to the small details that matter to students; the questions they don't ask out loud, the frustrations they face quietly, and turn those observations into solutions. I can't do this alone; you can't either. So take my hand.

I'm running for Chair of Marketing because I want to connect and raise awareness with the people of De Anza in introducing them to a series of amazing events, resources, and opportunities that are available to them in DASG and anywhere else at De Anza in general. I plan to promote campus programs through media, posters and any other forms that would promote major events like De Anza's athletic programs, the resource centers and more areas that not many students may have heard of. If given the chance, I'll be effective enough to work with digital media, communications, and as well as teamwork that will allow me to be a more proactive and caring collaborator with other senators at DASG. Overall, I hope to contribute and strengthen the connection between DASG and the student body, inspire participation in campus activities, and make sure that every individual feels that their voice matters here at De Anza. Since I'm passionate about creating, I've accumulated considerable number of popular reels on Instagram and recently filter out those which best showcase De Anza college. In order to promote De Anza's activities, one also need to understand "how" to use the tool to create content. I am comfortable with using a powerful video editing tool called "Davinci Resolve 20" and also know the basic function of Photoshop. I am open to using AI to assist in demonstrating the initial concept we have in some cases, and to improving them as the concept takes shape. However, one of the main challenges we face is the lack of awareness and engagement with resources that would otherwise elevate our academic success. I am running for DASG Chair of Environmental Sustainability because I think campus sustainability should focus on how our energy systems actually work, not just how sustainability is talked about. On many campuses, energy systems such as lighting, HVAC, laboratories, and charging stations operate separately, which makes coordination difficult. At the same time, aging equipment, high energy use, and limited maintenance resources create ongoing challenges. These issues raise costs, reduce efficiency, and can affect the reliability of power needed for classes, research, and daily campus life. I want to support a more practical approach to sustainability by encouraging better coordination, clearer monitoring of energy use, and long-term planning instead of relying on reactive fixes. Making energy use more transparent and improving how clean energy is integrated can help sustainability become more concrete and understandable for students. I bring analytical skills and experience working on technical problems, and as Chair, I hope to help De Anza move toward a more reliable and lower-carbon campus while helping students better understand the systems that support it.

I hope to continue doing the same as Chair of ICC as I strive towards the shared goals I have with all of those I will be collaborating with (e.g. clubs, ICC officers & interns, DASG). One particular goal that I am passionate about is to continue building upon the open communication between ICC and clubs. I understand how intimidating and difficult it may feel for clubs to reach out to ICC at times, especially when there are issues with late form submissions, absence in ICC Representative Meetings, or club status. Therefore, I hope to create an encouraging environment within ICC for those moments by stressing the message "take chances, make mistakes, get messy", as said by Ms. Frizzle from the kids' T.V. show The Magic School Bus.

Christina Asegedom
DASG Chair of Inter Club Council (ICC)
I want to become the Chair of ICC because I want to represent students' interests and voices and I believe that the best way to do this is by supporting clubs. Clubs help students build community, express their interest, participate in meaningful activities and enjoy their time on campus. Thus, supporting clubs ensures that students' interests, voices and successes are recognized. As a result, the ICC needs a dedicated and responsive chair. As the chair I aim to ensure that clubs have the funding that they need to thrive and to simplify the process of forming clubs. I also want to improve communication between ICC and clubs by making it faster and easier because communication can often take long. Some of the skills I will bring to the DASG senate are reliability, dedication, and clear communication. Overall, my goal is to support clubs and ensure students' interests and voices are recognized.

DASG Chair of Inter Club Council (ICC)
I want to be ICC Chair because I care deeply about making clubs feel seen, heard, and supported. Working with so many different club officers showed me that every club has passion, but not every club always has structure or resources, and ICC is what bridges that gap. Being an ICC intern for the past two quarters has honestly been one of the most meaningful parts of my school experience. Through ICC, I didn't just help with clubs. I learned how much work it takes to keep student organizations supported, organized, and connected. Seeing how Club Day comes together, how officers rely on ICC for guidance, and how communication between clubs and DASG actually happens made me realize that this is where I want to lead. What excites me most is that ICC isn't just about running meetings, but it's about building a stronger school community. As ICC Chair, I hope I can collaborate with other DASG committees, plan events, and help students turn ideas into reality, which makes me feel like I'm doing work that actually matters. I want to lead with responsibility, communication, and care, and continue creating an environment where every club feels supported and empowered to grow.

Eaint Nay Chi Khin
DASG Chair of Inter Club Council (ICC)
Aside from the obvious benefits, my main reason for wanting to contribute to De Anza as a chair of inter club council is simple. It is to have fun. I believe that our campus life should have a balance between academics and fun. Clubs are an essential part of college to pursue our passion and interests, make friends, form communities and even find our career paths. Which is why one of my main goals is to make clubs more accessible to every single one of us. I want students to view ICC as a light hearted environment where we are free to share and suggest our ideas, and become actively involved, not as an intimidating obstacle to start a club. Becoming a part of ICC as an intern gave me a valuable insight to how ICC operates, including the ongoing processes and codes, and hearing students' voices and challenges they have to face. Using my skills and experiences, I will make sure ICC becomes not an obstacle to joining a club, but a safe space where we advocate for students, an accessible and inclusive community where we all can have fun!

Hey everyone, my name is Lena Cung and I'm looking forward to becoming YOUR student trustee here at De Anza. My goal is to establish a fun and inclusive environment while being your voice at the district level. I'm currently an editor and intern for the DASG Marketing Committee, and would love to continue working for our students. Jason Chen
De Anza College Student Trustee
I am running for the DASG Executive Officer position because I have seen that the current Board of Trustees and college leaders care about student safety and student needs, especially for international students. I think the current Student Trustee has done a good job, and I hope to do the same if I am elected. I want to give more support to international students and underserved students, including helping international students adjust to college life and helping students find useful resources. English is not my first language, so I am still improving my English, but this allows me to see problems from different cultural views. I have joined many student groups and school volunteer programs in Taiwan, which helped me build leadership and teamwork skills. I am willing to listen to students from different backgrounds, take responsibility seriously, and work hard to represent student voices and improve the student experience at De Anza College.

De Anza College Student Trustee
I am running for Student Trustee not for the title, but to improve the unfairness I have seen. I don't seek to lead anyone; I believe the true value of impact lies in solving real problems. DeAnza is an excellent college, yet information barriers and social distance leave students navigating important matters alone. As a business student, I may not be a traditional academic elite, but I have practical intuition in accounting and economics, and I understand how to make theory useful in real systems. Influenced by my family, I interacted with people from many different backgrounds in China, which taught me that while one person's power is limited, when people support their own within a system, the power is infinite. Each year, many De Anza students transfer to top universities, yet their experiences and resources are often scattered. Through Student Trustee role and the Board of Trustees platform, I hope to promote transparent communication and gradually cultivate an alumni support culture similar to universities like USC, connecting transfer experiences and resources into a clear, sustainable support network, while fostering a professional, mentor-like relationship between students and the institution. I bring not only confidence, but the ability to execute.

I'm running for Student Trustee because I want to make sure student voices are represented in decisions that impact our classes, resources, and campus. I'm actively involved on campus through leadership roles, including being an event intern in student government and serving as Sports Editor for La Voz, where I communicate with others, meet deadlines, and represent student perspectives. Being involved in different parts of campus life has helped me understand what students care about and where improvements are needed. If elected, my goals are to advocate for students, push for better communication and transparency around board decisions, and follow up on student issues so they lead to positive changes on campus. I am committed to listening to students, speaking up on their behalf, and keeping them informed about decisions that impact them.
