Student-Centered Instruction and Services
Village Subject Tutoring

  • Goal 3: Course success
  • To create a comprehensive Guided Pathways Village support plan for classroom teaching, we propose integrating student subject tutors into all six Village Centers. This initiative aims to provide essential face-to-face subject support for underserved students struggling with course work and foster a supportive environment during village hours. By mirroring the successful model of the Writing and Reading Center, we can recruit, train and support student tutors effectively. Peer mentors and tutors often make students feel more comfortable seeking help, aligning with De Anza's commitment to student success factors by directing and nurturing them while engaging and valuing students.
  • Our first step will be to identify student subject tutors who excel in their respective courses and possess strong communication and tutoring skills. Comprehensive training sessions will be provided to prepare tutors for their roles in supporting underserved students. Once trained, tutors will be integrated into all six Village Centers, ensuring their availability during center hours and other relevant times. Tutors will be assigned to specific subject areas based on their expertise and the needs of underserved students.
