One Small Fee to Ride Free – All Quarter!

The VTA SmartPass gives all enrolled De Anza students unlimited rides on VTA buses and light rail within Santa Clara County — for the entire quarter. Your SmartPass is loaded onto a Clipper Card, the reloadable smart card used for transit payments throughout the Bay Area.

Get Your SmartPass

To pick up your personalized Clipper Card from the Office of College Life,

  1. Go to MyPortal to register for your classes. You will be automatically charged a mandatory SmartPass fee.
  2. Go to the Office of College Life to pick up your VTA Smartpass Clipper Card.
  3. Register your card at clippercard.com to protect any non-SmartPass value you add (BART, Caltrain, etc.). If your card is lost and unregistered, that value cannot be recovered.
  4. Once you have it:
    • Keep your card. It reloads automatically each quarter you stay enrolled at De Anza.
    • Taking fall, winter, or spring quarter off will disable your SmartPass in week three of that quarter. Summer quarter off is fine — it won't be affected.
    • Your card works for other transit agencies too (BART, Caltrain, Muni, etc.) if you add funds. Visit clippercard.com for details.

Digital VTA SmartPass Clipper Card

Do not transfer your VTA SmartPass Clipper card to the Clipper Card mobile app, Apple Wallet, or Google Pay/Wallet, because this will disable your VTA SmartPass. Unfortunately, the VTA SmartPass is not compatible with these apps.
