Physical Education and Athletics Athletics P E 42W Perform the techniques, strategies, mental and physical skills of women's volleyball with an increasing degree of proficiency. 2021-2022 Fall Face-to-Face Demonstration Demonstration of techniques, strategies, mental and physical skills, were assessed throughout the quarter, both in practice sessions, as well as competitions with other community colleges.  20 20 0 0 0 This year was, by far, the toughest year of my 20+ years of coaching and teaching. Due to the limited amount of time I had working with my student-athletes, because of the restrictions from the county and administration (Covid-19), it took us a bit longer to get into competition form. Every player continued to increase their proficiency in all aspects of the game of volleyball, both mentally and physically. I will continue to assess each student-athlete on their techniques, strategies, and mental and physical skills throughout the volleyball season. Including weekly individual meetings with each player has certainly helped with their understanding of the game and their individual skills and techniques.

Physical Education and Athletics Kinesiology KNES 5A Develop an understanding of improving cardiorespiratory strength and endurance through cycling.

Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.
2021-2022 Spring Face-to-Face Demonstration Throughout the quarter, students tracked and calculated their heart rate during activity and during rest and compared those values recorded prior in the course to track improvement and set up a plan for continuing their progress once the class had concluded. 15 3 1 2 4 Most students reported value in understanding the role of heart rate in improvement of cardiovascular fitness.  The students that did not meet expectations, were largely due to missing class or not completing assignments during the quarter. I will be touching base individually with students that have not completed their assignments.  It is difficult when they are also missing class due to outside factors.
Physical Education and Athletics Kinesiology KNES 5B Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.

Formulate and design a program for core strength and stabilization exercises.

Create an interval cycling program based upon individual indoor cycling goals.

2021-2022 Spring Face-to-Face Presentation/Performance Students created a plan based on their nutritional/heart rate calculations to maximize their cardiovascular progress. 2 1 0 1 2 I have been trying to find ways to make the class more challenging for those taking the Hi Intensity class.  Initially I enacted a higher work-rate for those students, but there was no way to confirm their work-rate besides the heart rate readings which I was unable to assess in real time.  A heart rate monitoring system would be very useful measuring tool for this class, but that is not necessarily available.  Without purchasing new equipment, this quarter I decided to add up to 25 minutes to each ride to allow for my advanced Hi Intensity students to work for a longer period of time (usually about 55 minutes per class).  This ensured that they were getting a more intense experience to advance their progress.
Physical Education and Athletics Athletics PE 32M Perform offensive and defensive techniques and strategies through the use of mental and physical soccer skills with an increasing degree of proficiency.

Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.

2021-2022 Spring Face-to-Face Demonstration Students are assessed on their ability to apply simple defensive and offensive concepts during the course.  They are given a chance to further show their understanding of the concepts through professional game assessment and reflection on tactical considerations from the highest levels of the game. 30 0 2 4 4 The students that did not meet the expectations of the course were students that felt comfortable missing considerable class time.  The students that attended class actually did very well in my assessment of their grasping on the concepts provided. In order to engage the students more fully, we plan to run a short series early in the quarter about the balance of responsibilities: family, school, work, and friends.  Many of these students move school to the bottom of this priority list without really noticing this, and it affects their attendance and completion of the course.  Students think they can work full time and go to school full time, and should be educated on the importance of attendance in classes to be successful.
Physical Education and Athletics Athletics PE39MX Perform the techniques, strategies, mental and physical skills of Men's Soccer with an increasing degree of proficiency.

Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.

2021-2022 Fall Face-to-Face Presentation/Performance Student athletes are evaluated in training and competition on their ability to apply complicated technical, tactical, and psychological techniques requiring strength and fitness.  Their process of applying new concepts is evaluated and reflected on by both parties. 37 0 0 0 5 As is typical in a season, each student athlete has their ups and downs.  I have been keen on evaluating their ways of dealing with adversity rather than punishing the student for encountering adversity.  They are playing the game at the highest level, and to get better, they need to fail at this level.  This doesn't mean during the course of the quarter that there aren't more important underlying processes that the athlete must understand and endure to be successful in the future.  Our program during the season is very tightly evaluated from fitness testing, to evaluating a player's tactical understanding through video.  Our plan is to increase the meetings that we have with athletes that are on the bubble of playing or traveling to help them clearly understand their pathway to improvement through video, extra fitness, and extra technical training.
Physical Education and Athletics Kinesiology KNES38A Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.

Perform basic futsal skills, including passing and receiving the ball with the inside and bottom of the feet.

2021-2022 Spring Face-to-Face Demonstration Students are evaluated on application of basic futsal techniques throughout the class. Dribbling, passing, and shooting are all taught and evaluated throughout the course. 18 1 1 3 5 Most students were able to perform the basic skills taught in Futsal 1.  The ones that did not meet expectations were students that missed more class than the other students and were not as proficient due to lack of experience and repetition within the course. I will continue to engage the students each week with a new skill and reinforce that skill throughout the quarter in case students were absent or missed some details. Those students will be reminded going forward of the importance of repetition and practice to improve in a skill.
Physical Education and Athletics Kinesiology KNES38B Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.

Perform advanced-beginner futsal skills and strategies that are performed in small group settings.

2021-2022 Summer Face-to-Face Demonstration dents are evaluated on application of advanced-basic futsal techniques throughout the class. Dribbling,
passing, and shooting are all taught and evaluated throughout the course on a slightly higher level than that of a beginner athlete.
7 1 0 0 2 Most of the students that take the second futsal class end up being successful in staring to apply the more advanced skills just due to the repetition within the course as well as likely playing a bit outside of the class.  The students that take the class more than once are usually in it for the material, more that just the units. I would like to introduce some more advanced techniques for this course to challenge the students a bit more since they are mainly having success with demonstrating the current techniques.
Physical Education and Athletics Kinesiology KNES38C Apply knowledge of basic fitness concepts as they apply to health and wellness.

Perform intermediate futsal skills and strategies that are performed in small group and large group settings.
2021-2022 Spring Face-to-Face Demonstration Students are evaluated on application of intermediate futsal techniques throughout the class. Individual defending and combination play are covered during the course. 2 0 0 0 1 With 100% success rate in this class, I believe the more intermediate to advanced courses contain students that are committed to the development in Futsal and actively seek out avenues to get better.   No changes necessary, but will implement some more advanced techniques to challenge this portion of the course with more intermediate-advanced concepts that move into the tactical realm a bit deeper.
Physical Education and Athletics Kinesiology KNES37E Perform with increased proficiency the skills, footwork, and strategies of the sport of indoor soccer.
