Critical Thinking and Writing

Course Description

Part 1: In this course, students receive instruction in critical thinking for purposes of constructing, evaluating, and composing arguments in a variety of rhetorical forms, using primarily nonfiction texts, refining writing skills and research strategies developed in ENGL C1000 Academic Reading and Writing (or C-ID ENGL 100) or similar first-year college writing course. Part 2: This course allows students to develop critical thinking skills and the ability to apply these skills to reading and writing. Students will practice analytical and argumentative academic essays based on the reading of complex texts and the use of outside research leading to analysis, comparison and synthesis, and a documented research paper.

ENGL 1001.02V: This class is part of the IMPACT AAPI Learning Community, designed to help first year students succeed through community-building, and Asian American/Pacific Islander focused curriculum. This is a HYBRID class that has both online and ON CAMPUS attendance requirements. Requires concurrent enrollment in COMM 001.1V (35201). For more information, contact Amy Wang at wangamy@fhda.edu.
