Music Appreciation: World Music in America
Course Description
This course is an introduction to music through world music and its influence on current musical trends in the United States. Music of diverse cultures, including Native Americans, Asia/Pacific Rim, India, Africa, South and Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean, are presented in conjunction with American and European traditions. Students practice listening skills to distinguish musical cultures, instrumentation, and artists.
