"For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that
things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the
number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
-George Eliot, Middlemarch
This is my sixth year teaching at De Anza. I love working with De Anza students and I'm thrilled to be a part of the De Anza community.
My pedagogical goal is to help students build strong reading, writing, and thinking skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom. In my writing (EWRT) classes,
- the work is collaborative - students work with me and with each other.
- we read and discuss engaging texts, including Harry Potter, sci-fi novels, and the musical Hamilton.
- we explore in writing topics such as racism, community, social justice, education, journalism, and science.
- I encourage students to understand reading and writing in relation to communities outside of the classroom.
If this sounds like fun, then sign up for an EWRT class with me!
I also teach English literature. In my ELIT classes, the goal is for students to encounter new texts and to learn how to read analytically--without ever losing sight of the pleasures that can be found in literature.
Students who are enrolled in my classes can access the syllabus through the Canvas page. Anyone else who is interested in my syllabi should send me an email.
