This, in turn, enables us to understand these stories and perhaps even feel more connected to them. Often times, when we read fiction, we identify with one character more than another. While sometimes we identify with the speaker, the person from whose point of view the story is told, other times we identify more with a character who does not get to tell his/her story first hand. For our next reading assignment, you will have the opportunity to give such a character a voice and add you own ideas to the stories we have read. You have read all the stories for this unit, but you will select only ONE from which you will write your narrative (This can be the story on which you are presenting). This narrative will be a story from another characters perspectiveone different from whats provided in the short story you have chosen. The narrative or story you write can be the story that leads up to the original one, the original story (from a different pt. of view), or a story that is after the one provided. For example, in First Love, the story is told from the third person, so you may adapt the perspective of Alfonso, the main character, or you can take on Sandras perspective, another character. Your narrative might include some of what the story focuses on, young love, but then you might tell a narrative about this couple when they get to college. Be creative! Your paper will need to: Briefly sum up the story you selectedmain events, characters, setting, point of view, themes Tell your story from your chosen perspectiveone thats different from whats in the original story (It should be obvious whose pt. of view you are using right away by the clues you give in your story.) Include detailed descriptions using sensory details and plenty of other specifics Contain at least ONE dialogue; use our stories as a model for this Have appropriate paragraph breaks so your reader can move easily through your paper Use correct grammar (Proofread for the errors you know you make and the ones weve worked on in class.) Include one to two paragraphs of reflection--why you chose the character you did, why you told the story you did, and what you discovered/learned through this process Additional Requirements: Write two and a half to four pages Use at least THREE vocabulary words from your list. Underline them! Rough Draft Due: ___________________ (Bring 2 copies typed!)
